In a joint operation, the West Bengal STF and Narayanpur police intercepted an SUV near Baromatha More in New Town following a tip-off.
The vehicle was coming from Birbhum, and two occupants identified as Akram Khan and Imran Khan were arrested at the scene.
A case was registered at Narayanpur police station, and the STF has assumed charge of the investigation.
Officers are questioning the accused to determine the cash’s source, destination, and purpose after finding multiple bags of unaccounted money in the car.
Authorities are also examining potential syndicate links as the recovery draws attention ahead of next year’s Assembly polls and during the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision.
