September expansion gives Kansas City depth upgrades plus 40-man protection for Jensen.

Overview

  • Catcher Carter Jensen, a 2021 third-round pick and Kansas City native, is added to the 40-man roster and will make his MLB debut after posting a combined .290/.377/.501 with 20 homers across Double-A and Triple-A.
  • Jac Caglianone returns from a left hamstring strain following a 16-game Triple-A rehab in which he hit .385 with five home runs.
  • Right-hander Luinder Avila rejoins the bullpen after a perfect MLB inning earlier this year and a Triple-A line featuring 61 strikeouts in 53.1 innings with a 5.23 ERA.
  • The Royals placed second baseman Jonathan India on the 10-day injured list with a sprained left wrist, with Adam Frazier and Michael Massey expected to cover second base.
  • With rosters at 28 for September, Kansas City enters an Angels series three games back of the final AL wild-card spot.
