Overview
- Teddy Young, 24, was arrested at his Bedfordshire home on Tuesday and charged on 7 October with two offences under the National Security Act relating to alleged conduct between 26 November 2024 and 21 May 2025.
- The CPS says one charge accuses Young of obtaining, copying or retaining protected information intending to benefit a foreign power and the other accuses him of preparing to disclose protected information.
- Young was remanded in custody after a Westminster Magistrates’ Court appearance and the judge sent the case to the Old Bailey for a further hearing on 16 October.
- Counter Terrorism Policing London says it worked closely with the Ministry of Defence; Young was previously arrested on 21 May 2025, had his security clearance suspended and was removed from duties.
- Local reports drawn from a CPS summary allege he tried to contact foreign actors, drafted a message in Russian and used the dark web but those details are limited and have not been tested in court and prosecution under the National Security Act 2023 reflects new powers to tackle insider threats.
