Royal Navy Completes First Ship-to-Ship Drone Resupply on Indo-Pacific Mission

The trial seeks to free crewed helicopters for core missions by moving short-range resupply to autonomous aircraft.

Overview

  • A Malloy T-150 carried critical spare and repair parts from HMS Prince of Wales to HMS Dauntless during Carrier Strike Group 25.
  • The quadcopter flew autonomously for just over a mile before Dauntless crew took control to land it on the flight deck.
  • 700X Naval Air Squadron is running the trials, with Malloy drones logging nearly 150 deck landings and more than 20 flight hours on this deployment.
  • Commanders describe the milestone as a step toward a hybrid carrier air wing that could inform wider unmanned roles at sea.
  • The British-built T-150 can carry about 65–68 kg at up to 60 mph, and manufacturer Malloy Aeronautics has been owned by BAE Systems since 2024.
