Royal Mint Releases Final Queen Elizabeth II £1 Coins as King Charles £1s Enter Circulation

  • A total of 30.855 million £1 coins are being released, including 23.29 million dated 2021–2022 with Queen Elizabeth II and 7.565 million with King Charles III.
  • The 2022-dated Queen Elizabeth II £1s are now the rarest £1 coins in active circulation and are the last with her portrait to enter tills.
  • The new King Charles £1 features a bee design from the Royal Mint’s Definitive collection inspired by UK flora and fauna.
  • Within the new tranche, 170,000 King Charles £1 coins carry a 2025 date, adding to the 2.975 million issued last August.
  • With roughly 24.7 billion coins in circulation, King Charles coins account for about 0.004% of the total, and the Mint is urging people to check their change in the coming weeks.
