Overview
- The Royal Mint unveiled the 50p series celebrating Aardman’s 50 years and Aardman co‑founder Peter Lord visited the Mint to strike one of the first coins.
- The coins go on sale from 9am on Tuesday, June 9, with brilliant uncirculated, colour, silver and gold editions priced from £15 and the gold version at £2,420.
- Aardman designed the coin’s reverse to show an ensemble of characters including Wallace and Gromit, Shaun the Sheep, Morph and Feathers McGraw and some editions will feature full colour artwork.
- The gold 50p will be made from recycled gold sourced from old jewellery and coins and The Royal Mint has announced plans to source recycled gold for all its collectable gold coins by the end of 2026.
- The release is part of Aardman’s wider 50th anniversary programme, ties into an autumn Shaun the Sheep film, and is likely to drive collector demand that could affect secondary‑market values.
