Royal Mail Warns of Delays in 15 Postcode Areas

The company attributes the hold-ups to local staffing gaps alongside a weekend backlog at Truro.

Overview

  • Royal Mail, which issued a disruption alert on Monday, said 15 postcode areas face late deliveries, naming sites such as Alfreton, Brackley, Brierley Hill, Daventry, Erskine, Kidlington, Tweedale and Wantage.
  • The firm blamed high sick absence, resourcing gaps and other local factors, and it is rotating rounds and sending targeted support to the worst-hit delivery offices.
  • Mail was not fully processed at the Truro Mail Centre over the weekend, so post sent from the TR area on Friday for Saturday delivery elsewhere may now arrive late.
  • The delays come as Royal Mail pursues a £500m turnaround that includes plans to drop Saturday Second Class rounds and switch those letters to alternating weekdays.
  • Ofcom fined Royal Mail £21m in October for missing 2024–25 targets, and last month the regulator lowered the goals to 90% for next‑day First Class and 95% for Second Class within three days.
