Royal Mail to Hire 20,000 Seasonal Staff for 2025 Holiday Rush

Royal Mail expands sorting space, hires vans, engages road hauliers to keep peak-season deliveries on schedule.

  • The company announced 20,000 temporary roles across the UK to handle surging parcel and mail volumes during the festive period.
  • Positions run from late October to early January 2026, covering Black Friday, Cyber Monday and Christmas.
  • Role mix includes 12,000 sorting jobs in England, 2,000 in Scotland, 600 in Wales and 400 in Northern Ireland, plus 3,000 delivery and collection roles and 2,000 temporary HGV and MGV driver posts.
  • Jobs will be based in two parcel hubs, four seasonal parcel sort centres and 37 mail centres, with 118,000 sqm of extra temporary space at Atherstone, Milton Keynes, Northampton and Daventry.
  • Capacity is boosted by 6,800 hire vans and more than 1,200 road haulage contractors, alongside flexible shifts with no prior experience required and the prospect of longer-term work.
