Royal Foundation Partners With Olympian Tom Dean to Expand Free Learn-to-Swim Lessons Across the UK

Overview

  • More than 200 children have already started lessons in Birtley, Devon, Hull and Birmingham as the rollout begins.

  • Reported figures show UK child drowning deaths rose from 20 to 41 between 2019/20 and 2022/23, and around one in three pupils leave primary school unable to swim.
  • The national push builds on Birtley’s reopened community pool, supported by The Royal Foundation, which has attracted more than 88,000 visits.
