Royal Family Honors Air India Crash Victims at Trooping the Colour

Participating despite ongoing cancer treatment, the monarch led a minute of silence for the Air India crash victims

  • During the June 14 ceremony, the royal family held a minute of silence in tribute to the victims of the June 12 Air India Boeing 787 crash in Ahmedabad that killed 279 people, including 52 Britons.
  • King Charles III, Queen Camilla and other senior royals donned black armbands as a sign of respect for the lives lost and the families affected by the disaster.
  • Despite undergoing cancer treatment, Charles III rode along The Mall in a horse-drawn carriage dressed in military uniform and received a salute from the troops.
  • Senior royals on horseback included Prince Edward and Princess Anne, while Prince William, Princess Kate and their children joined the carriage procession.
  • The parade, first held in 1748 to mark the monarch’s official birthday, concluded with the customary aerial flypast above Buckingham Palace balcony.
