Overview
- On August 9, the Royal Canadian Navy and Irving Shipbuilding officially named the future HMCS Robert Hampton Gray as the sixth and final Harry DeWolf-class Arctic and Offshore Patrol Ship in Halifax.
- The vessel honours Lieutenant Robert Hampton Gray, the only RCN member awarded a Victoria Cross in World War II, and was christened by his descendant, Jane Underwood.
- Vice-Admiral Angus Topshee and Minister Joël Lightbound praised the naming as a key achievement for Arctic sovereignty and the National Shipbuilding Strategy.
- Halifax Shipyard remains busy building two Coast Guard AOPS variants and has begun full-rate production on the first of 15 River-class destroyers under the same strategy.
- The Harry DeWolf-class ships are designed for extended patrols in Arctic and offshore waters, enabling surveillance, search and rescue, sovereignty patrols and international missions.
