Roubaix Jeweler and Wife Seized in Night Heist as Thieves Take Up to €1 Million

Prosecutors in Lille have opened an organized-crime probe handled by the DCOS.

Overview

  • The robbery occurred in central Roubaix during the night of Wednesday 12 to Thursday 13 November, when several individuals entered the shop and held the jeweler and his wife at their home.
  • Authorities estimate the haul at between €500,000 and €1,000,000 in stolen jewelry, according to the Lille prosecutor’s office confirming La Voix du Nord’s report.
  • Prosecutors opened an inquiry citing sequestration with release before the seventh day to prepare a crime, armed extortion in an organized group, and participation in a criminal association.
  • The case has been assigned to the Lille Division of Organized and Specialized Crime, and investigators say their work is ongoing with no suspects publicly identified in the heist.
  • Separately that Wednesday, attackers blew open a cash-transfer safe at Roubaix’s main post office, left with a bag containing only empty sacks, and six people were arrested in that distinct case.
