Ross Taylor Ends Retirement to Play for Samoa at T20 World Cup Qualifier

The 41-year-old qualifies through his Samoan passport after a three-year stand-down from New Zealand duty.

  • Samoa has named Taylor in its 15-player squad for the AsiaEAP T20 World Cup 2026 Qualifier in Oman from October 8–17.
  • Samoa will face hosts Oman and Papua New Guinea in the group stage, with the top two progressing to a Super Six and three teams ultimately earning World Cup berths for India and Sri Lanka.
  • Taylor confirmed the move on social media, calling it an honour to represent his heritage and a chance to give back by sharing experience on and off the field.
  • A veteran of 450 internationals with more than 18,000 runs for New Zealand, Taylor last played for the Black Caps in April 2022.
