Overview

• The 2024 lightning survey by Aldis/Blids recorded 209,619 ground strikes across Germany, averaging one strike every two and a half minutes.
• Rosenheim, Bavaria, remained the lightning capital with 2.98 strikes per square kilometer, far ahead of other regions.
• Bavaria led all federal states with 56,664 strikes, accounting for over a quarter of the national total.
• Despite Hamburg's relatively low total of 702 strikes, its small area gave it the highest strike density among states.
• Frankfurt am Main ranked highest among large cities with 1.32 strikes per square kilometer, followed by Munich and Hamburg.
