Rosatom Begins Fuel Deliveries for Kudankulam Unit 3 With Seven Flights Planned

The first batch arrives under a 2024 contract that covers lifetime fuel for Units 3 and 4.

Overview

  • Rosatom said a cargo flight delivered the initial fuel assemblies for Unit 3’s first core loading in Tamil Nadu.
  • The shipment was produced by the Novosibirsk Chemical Concentrates Plant, a subsidiary of Rosatom’s Nuclear Fuel Division.
  • Six additional flights are scheduled to complete the full reactor core and reserve fuel under the current delivery plan.
  • Rosatom noted Units 3 and 4 will operate with TVS-2M fuel on an extended 18‑month cycle following upgrades introduced at Kudankulam in 2022.
  • The delivery coincided with President Vladimir Putin’s visit to New Delhi for a bilateral summit.
