Roof Collapses in Berlin Industrial Fire as Crews Contain Spread

Structural collapse has forced an exterior-only response.

Overview

  • Flames broke out around 5:18 a.m. at an industrial site on Barnackufer in Lichterfelde that includes a dental-technology operation with a warehouse and offices, affecting roughly 400 square metres.
  • After the hall roof and parts of the office tract collapsed and walls deformed, firefighters halted interior operations and used ladder trucks and a drone to target remaining hotspots.
  • Crews prevented the blaze from reaching a neighboring auto workshop with an oil storage area, and propane cylinders on the premises were secured.
  • Early water-supply problems were stabilized with assistance from the nearby Lichterfelde power plant, and additional water was drawn from the Teltow Canal with precautions to avoid foam contamination.
  • About 95–100 firefighters were deployed at peak before scaling down to rotating crews; no injuries were reported, and police will examine the cause once the site is safe.
