Ronald Exantus Extradited to Kentucky After Florida Arrest Over Felon Registration

Florida officials say interagency cooperation located him beside a Marion County elementary school following his release under Kentucky’s mandatory reentry supervision.

Overview

  • Marion County deputies arrested Exantus on Oct. 9 for allegedly failing to register as a convicted felon within 48 hours of moving to Florida, as state law requires.
  • He was found living in a Marion Oaks home immediately adjacent to Sunrise Elementary School and a few blocks from Horizon Academy, according to Sheriff Billy Woods.
  • Authorities said Exantus was extradited on Oct. 28 back to Kentucky, where he is expected to face parole-violation proceedings stemming from the Florida arrest.
  • Exantus was found not guilty by reason of insanity in the 2015 killing of 6-year-old Logan Tipton but was convicted on assault charges, received a 20-year sentence, and was released Oct. 1 under Mandatory Reentry Supervision and earned credits.
  • Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier condemned the case as a miscarriage of justice and urged lawmakers to consider narrowing the state’s insanity defense, crediting coordination among statewide prosecutors and the Marion County Sheriff’s Office for the arrest.
