Overview

  • Dog Relais opened in May at Rome’s Fiumicino and has averaged about two-thirds occupancy, with all 40 rooms booked in August.
  • Basic rooms cost about €40 and include temperature-controlled floors and private gardens, while €60 premium suites offer 24/7 videocalls and an app-controlled treat dispenser.
  • Staff collect dogs directly from the terminal, letting travelers head straight to their flights.
  • Services extend beyond boarding to grooming, bathing, dental care, aromatherapy, arnica massages, training and local daycare.
  • Italy’s aviation authority now permits large dogs in domestic cabins if crated, with the first such flight scheduled for Sept. 23, according to Transport Minister Matteo Salvini.
