Roman Polanski Settles 1973 Sexual Assault Case, Avoids Trial

The Oscar-winning director reached a settlement with the accuser, dismissing the lawsuit set for trial in 2025.

Roman Polanski, accused of sexually assaulting a minor in 1973, has settled the civil lawsuit filed against him.
The settlement was reached to the mutual satisfaction of both parties, leading to the formal dismissal of the case.
The lawsuit was initially filed in June 2023, taking advantage of a California law allowing claims for historical sexual crimes.
Polanski's lawyer confirmed the settlement this summer, while the plaintiff's attorney, Gloria Allred, also acknowledged the agreement.
Polanski, a fugitive since fleeing the U.S. in 1978 after a separate statutory rape conviction, continues to deny the allegations.
