Romain Grosjean to Drive Haas F1 Car at Mugello in First Run Since 2020 Crash

The one-off Testing of Previous Cars session reunites him with Haas engineers as part of the team’s VF-23 trackside program.

  • Haas confirmed the Mugello run for September 26 under F1’s Testing of Previous Cars rules.
  • Grosjean will drive the 2023 VF-23, his first outing in F1 machinery since his 67G Bahrain accident in 2020.
  • Team principal Ayao Komatsu will act as his race engineer, with Dominic Haines and Ian Staniforth also attending.
  • Grosjean will wear the helmet designed by his children for the 2020 Abu Dhabi finale he missed.
  • F1TV’s James Hinchcliffe will also drive the VF-23 during the session, part of Haas’s new TPC program with Toyota Gazoo Racing.
