Rollins College Senior Arrested After 1,500 Rounds Shipped to Dorm, AR-15 Found

A flagged ammunition delivery triggered a campus search that led to the discovery and to the student's removal during a conduct review.

Overview

  • An assistant campus safety director reported a delivery of 1,500 rounds of 9mm ammunition to Constantine Demetriades on Dec. 3, prompting a room search and a call to Winter Park police.
  • Officials found an unloaded AR-15 in an unsecured case under the bed along with six magazines — one loaded and five empty — plus a tactical vest, knives, a black security vest, ear protection and a pistol storage case.
  • Demetriades was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm on school property, according to police and charging documents.
  • He appeared in court on Dec. 4, where a judge ruled he is eligible for pre-trial release.
  • Rollins College barred him from campus during an ongoing conduct investigation, and the affidavit says he told police he bought the rifle in New Jersey, shoots as a hobby, had no ill intent and knows his New Jersey carry permit is not valid in Florida.
