Rodalies to Halt R3 Service for 16-Month Upgrade Between Montcada and La Garriga

The €210 million plan includes doubling 17 km of single track served by an alternative bus network accommodating 21,500 commuters.

Overview

  • Starting September 27, 2025, Renfe and Adif will suspend R3 trains for 16 months in two eight-month phases between Montcada Bifurcació and La Garriga.
  • The core upgrade will double 17 km of single track between Parets del Vallès and La Garriga backed by a €68 million investment.
  • An unprecedented road plan will deploy 107 buses on 639 daily routes with a complementary €68.3 million budget for commuters.
  • During phase one, 21,500 daily users will rely on R4, metro and buses, while phase two will affect about 12,000 passengers per day.
  • The project also covers a full remodel of Montcada Bifurcació station, accessibility enhancements at several stops and a new substation at Vic-Taradell.
