Rochdale Grooming Trial: Jury Hears Teen’s Account of Vodka-Fuelled Rapes by Alleged Ringleader

Prosecutors outline a grooming pattern that exploited vulnerable schoolgirls in Rochdale.

Overview

  • A recording of Girl C’s police interview was played to jurors, in which she said she was 14 when Tahir Rashid gave her vodka and had sex with her at his house.
  • She told police Rashid picked her up in a BMW and saw her in school uniform, and she said Sucklane Shah had sex with her 10 to 15 times knowing her age.
  • The six defendants — Tahir Rashid, Mohammed Saleem, Sucklane Shah, Arshad Mohammed, Itfaq Hussain and Amjad Mahmood — deny a range of charges alleged to have occurred between 1988 and 2006.
  • The prosecution says Girl A and Girl C were passed around for sex, with claims of routine unprotected intercourse, threats and manipulation, and numbers shared so multiple men could contact them.
  • Court reporting says social services knew the girls were associating with older men yet took no action, and a police investigation began in 2015 after Girl A came forward.
