The Supreme Court of Brazil denied Robinho's appeal to remain free while exhausting judicial appeals against his conviction in Italy for gang raping a woman in 2013.
Brazilian authorities ruled that Robinho must serve his sentence in Brazil, as the country does not extradite its nationals.
Robinho's defense had sought to have him serve his jail time in Italy and requested a new trial in Brazil on the grounds of national sovereignty.
Robinho has consistently denied the charges against him and has claimed his sexual relations with the woman were consensual.
