Overview

  • Dickert conveyed the decision to the team, according to multiple reports led by ESPN’s Pete Thamel.
  • Ashford won the job over DeShawn Purdie, a Charlotte transfer who passed for 1,802 yards last season.
  • His first start for the Demon Deacons is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 29, against Kennesaw State.
  • Ashford arrived in January after previous stops at Oregon, Auburn and South Carolina.
  • At Auburn he totaled 1,758 passing yards with nine touchdowns and nine interceptions plus 927 rushing yards and 12 scores across 2022–23, and at South Carolina in 2024 he completed 23 of 32 passes for 324 yards with two touchdowns and rushed for 227 yards with two more.
