Robbie Williams successfully bid £20,000 for Eric Morecambe's iconic glasses, pipe, and photographs, far exceeding the original auction estimate of £2,000 to £4,000.
The auction, held in January 2025, featured over 700 items from Morecambe’s personal collection following the death of his widow Joan in March 2024.
Williams, who was in Los Angeles at the time, participated in the auction remotely with the help of a team member acting as his 'chief bidder.'
The singer shared that Morecambe was a significant influence on his life, describing the comedian as an 'uncle of sorts' and a source of joy and inspiration.
The purchase coincides with Williams’ recent promotional efforts for his semi-autobiographical film 'Better Man,' which explores his career and personal struggles.
