Overview
- Peterborough confirmed the appointment on Friday after Savage left National League side Forest Green to sign a long-term contract with the club.
- He replaces Luke Williams and inherits a team 23rd in League One that has won one of eight league games and is struggling for goals.
- Savage has built his reputation by taking Macclesfield to promotion and guiding Forest Green to the National League play-offs, and he says he will prioritise entertaining, attacking football.
- He will take charge for the first time in the EFL Trophy tie with Ipswich Town’s under-21s on 6 October and returns to league action with a trip to Leicester on 10 October.
- Chairman Darragh MacAnthony has publicly backed the hire, Savage will keep some media work including BBC Radio 5 Live’s 606, and the club faces immediate pressure to raise confidence and scoring with a manager who has limited EFL experience.
