Robberies Strike Tucumán, Mar del Plata and La Plata as Police Recover Goods and Detain Suspects

Investigators report open cases moving through the courts, with searches continuing for accomplices.

Overview

  • In San Miguel de Tucumán, street vendors Mario Soria and an employee were lured by a fake buyer to La Católica, held at knifepoint and gunpoint, and stripped of cash, phones and a large load of merchandise; later, police seized part of the haul after two men abandoned a sofa linked to the heist on a prosecutor’s order, with the gang still at large.
  • A separate incident on Avenida Colón saw a patrol officer intervene in an attempted motorcycle snatch, fire warning shots, and detain one suspect, prompting nearby merchants to renew calls for a fixed security post.
  • In Mar del Plata’s Stella Maris neighborhood, five intruders held an elderly couple for about an hour, issued threats to cut off fingers, and escaped with a small amount of cash and jewelry.
  • In La Plata, two assailants forced an 80-year-old inside her home, beat her 87-year-old husband, brandished a kitchen knife, and stole about 200,000 pesos and valuables in a case recorded as aggravated robbery.
  • In Añatuya, Santiago del Estero, police arrested merchant Luis Ángel Alonso and his partner Marcela Noemí Sánchez on fraud and threats charges, seizing dollar-denominated cheques, phones, a safe and vehicle sale documents for court review.
