Rob Halford Says Ozzy Osbourne Approved Judas Priest’s ‘War Pigs’ Charity Duet

Proceeds go to Parkinson’s causes central to the Priest and Osbourne circles.

Overview

  • Halford says Ozzy, listening with Sharon, heard the finished mix shortly before his July 22 death and was very happy with it.
  • The track arrived online Sept. 26 as “War Pigs (Charity Version)” with proceeds designated for the Glenn Tipton Parkinson’s Foundation and Cure Parkinson’s, with a CD release due later in October.
  • The duet pairs Halford with a pre-existing Ozzy vocal from Black Sabbath’s Paranoid-era “War Pigs,” incorporated at Sharon Osbourne’s request.
  • Judas Priest recorded the version with producer Andy Sneap, adding distinct Priest touches from Scott Travis on drums and guitar parts by Glenn Tipton and Richie Faulkner.
  • Halford says he initially could not listen to the full track because of grief, though he can now hear it in one go.
