Roadblocks and Vehicle Burnings Spread Across Six Michoacán Municipalities

Security forces moved to multiple sites to reopen traffic, with the motive for the coordinated actions still unknown.

Overview

  • Armed groups blocked highways and set vehicles on fire across Zamora, La Piedad, Chavinda, Ecuandureo and stretches connected to the Morelia–Quiroga corridor.
  • In Ecuandureo’s Las Fuentes, a passenger bus was used to obstruct the road and was then burned, according to early reports.
  • A trailer was robbed and burned on the La PiedadGuadalajara highway in front of the Bafar facility, with additional truck burnings reported at exits toward Penjamillo and Numarán near Cerritos Blancos.
  • Gunfire was reported on routes including Zamora–Ecuandureo and in Tangamandapio, and a passenger coach was set ablaze at the Chavinda access.
  • Federal and state police deployed to affected points to restore order and clear blockades as traffic disruptions persisted and the situation remained developing.
