State governments are probing causes at known accident-prone sites after announcing ex gratia payments to victims’ families

  • At least 14 people died and around 18 others were injured in separate collisions involving trucks, cars and auto-rickshaws in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Madhya Pradesh on June 5.
  • In Rewa district’s Sohagi Pahad area on National Highway-30, a cement-laden truck lost control and overturned onto an auto-rickshaw carrying a family returning from a holy dip, killing seven passengers including four children.
  • In Sri Potti Sriramulu Nellore districtf AnAndhra Pradesh, an SUV traveling at high speed struck an auto-rickshaw carrying agricultural workers near Atmakur mandal, killing two and injuring seven.
  • Telangana saw multiple crashes when trucks jumped signals or collided with motorcycles and a DCM vehicle in Khammam, Medak and Jagtial districts, resulting in five deaths and several injuries.
  • State authorities have announced financial aid for bereaved families and the injured and launched investigations into potential negligence, vehicle control failures and hazardous road conditions.
