RNLI Rescues Person Trying to Reach Cramond Island on Inflatable Mattress

Volunteers warn that pool inflatables are unsafe at sea, urging tide checks plus lifejackets.

Overview

  • Queensferry RNLI responded around 9:18 a.m. Sunday and recovered the casualty drifting off the east of Cramond Island in 7°C water.
  • The person had been in the sea for nearly 90 minutes after setting off at about 8 a.m., wearing normal clothes without a wetsuit or lifejacket.
  • Rescuers wrapped the casualty in blankets, transported them to Granton Harbour, and transferred care to paramedics and coastguard teams.
  • The lifeboat was cleared to return to service at 11:15 a.m. following the handover.
  • In a separate incident the same day, RNLI Girvan towed a 40ft yacht to Stranraer marina after an anchor-line failure in gale-force winds.
