Overview
- The Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund set the direction for a major tariff overhaul and its supervisory board decided on Friday not to raise single- and day-ticket prices from 1 January next year.
- RMV says it will drastically reduce the current catalogue of more than 100 ticket types and significantly shrink the number of tariff zones while keeping targeted offers such as the student ticket, senior ticket and the RMV‑combi ticket.
- The reform is being designed around the nationwide Deutschlandticket because its funding from federal and state governments is secured through at least 2030 and the pass has changed demand for monthly and job tickets.
- Regional examples are already in motion: the Nordhessen network will cut multiple price levels to three next summer, and the Verkehrsclub Deutschland welcomed RMV's price freeze and call for clearer, time-based offers for families and occasional users.
- Final design and timing must be agreed with RMV shareholders—the state of Hesse, 15 counties and 11 cities—and the association's public statements include a reported target date that requires clarification from RMV before a firm implementation schedule is confirmed.
