RJD Candidate Held Moments After Filing for Sasaram Seat in Bihar

Jharkhand Police executed a non-bailable warrant linked to a 2004 Garhwa bank robbery case.

Overview

  • Satendra Sah was allowed to submit his nomination in Sasaram before officers detained him soon after at the venue, according to a senior Rohtas district official.
  • Sunil Tiwari of Garhwa’s Sadar police station said a permanent warrant was issued against Sah in 2018 and police records list more than 20 pending cases, including robbery, dacoity and Arms Act violations.
  • The detention marks the third instance this nomination period in which an INDIA bloc candidate was arrested immediately after filing papers, following CPI(ML) Liberation nominees Jitendra Paswan and Satyadeo Ram.
  • CPI(ML) Liberation condemned the arrests as politically motivated and alleged misuse of police and administrative machinery by the BJP–JD(U) alliance.
  • The Bihar Assembly election is scheduled in two phases on November 6 and 11 with results on November 14.
