Riyadh Airport Reopens With Services Still Diverted and Canceled

GACA permission controls are slowing the return to normal operations by directing many flights to Jeddah or Dammam.

Overview

  • King Khalid International Airport has formally reopened but many scheduled flights remain canceled, delayed or listed as diverted rather than operating into Riyadh.
  • Airlines rerouted Riyadh services through secondary Saudi hubs, with carriers such as Saudia, Riyadh Air, flynas, flyadeal and Pakistan International Airlines using Jeddah and Dammam to preserve connections.
  • Some international links remain suspended, including Air Arabia’s Sharjah–Riyadh service and several UAE–Riyadh flights by Emirates, flydubai and Etihad.
  • Significant delays have been reported on domestic and long‑haul sectors, with examples including three‑hour pushes on PK304/305, four‑hour shifts on PA200/201 and a six‑and‑a‑half‑hour late departure for PK783 to Toronto.
  • Passengers should confirm travel plans directly with their airline because GACA permission is still required for arrivals and departures and carriers expect schedules to stabilize only gradually over the coming days.
