Rivian Recalls 24,214 2025 R1S and R1T Vehicles Over Highway Assist Fault

Most affected vehicles already received an over-the-air fix issued in June.

Overview

  • NHTSA recorded the recall for U.S. vehicles running software prior to version 2025.18.30 on the Highway Assist system.
  • The defect can cause the driver-assistance software to misclassify or miss a lead vehicle, increasing crash risk.
  • Rivian reported one related low-speed crash at 6 mph with no injuries, and regulators noted the driver failed to maintain control.
  • Rivian released the remedy via software update in June and says about 99% of affected vehicles are already updated.
  • Owners who have not yet installed the update will receive notification letters by November 4 and can apply the fix at no charge.
