Rivian Introduces Hands-Free Driving and Rally Mode in Major Update

Enhanced Highway Assist and new driving modes highlight Rivian's latest software update for R1 vehicles.

Rivian's Enhanced Highway Assist enables hands-free driving on compatible highways for Gen 2 R1S and R1T vehicles, using an infrared camera to monitor driver attention.
A new Rally Mode, included in the update, enhances throttle response and steering for off-road terrains like dirt, mud, and ice, available for Dual-Motor vehicles with the Performance Pack.
The Performance Upgrade, now available for $5,000, boosts horsepower and torque while adding three new driving modes: Rally, Sport, and Soft Sand.
Additional quality-of-life features include auto-tilting side mirrors in reverse, app-controlled charge door closure, and a tire puncture detection system.
Rivian plans to expand hands-free driving capabilities to more roads later this year and aims to introduce hands-off, eyes-off driving under controlled conditions in 2026.
