River Procession and 15-Kilometer Pilgrimage Mark Feast of Nossa Senhora Aparecida in Interior São Paulo

Grassroots organizers highlight faith testimonies rooted in the 1717 fishermen’s story.

Overview

  • In Laranjal Paulista, Grupo Rionidos led a river procession of about 150 people over more than four kilometers, with participants in boats, kayaks and flotation devices following safety rules.
  • Participants staged “A Pesca Milagrosa,” with three people reenacting the moment the image of Nossa Senhora Aparecida was found in the Paraíba do Sul River.
  • In São José do Rio Preto, a second-edition pilgrimage set out from a chapel built in March by devotee Fabiano Gimenez, with organizers expecting around 1,000 participants.
  • The Rio Preto route spans roughly 15 kilometers and about four hours, featuring rosary prayers, songs and expressions of thanksgiving that welcome families, seniors and young people.
  • Devotees shared personal accounts of recoveries, births and protection attributed to the saint, including Gimenez’s report of his mother briefly opening her eyes in the ICU before her death in July, presented as faith testimonies.
