Overview
- River formally presented a six-point reform dossier to the AFA Comité Ejecutivo on Sept. 22 that proposes a gradual cut from the current 30-team Primera toward roughly 20 clubs.
- The plan covers stable competition rules, a reordered calendar and transfer windows, objective referee appointments with independent audit, institutional transparency, and a new model for domestic and international TV commercialization.
- The club said it wants to keep a solidarity revenue split between teams while changing how the AFA generates and markets income to raise the league’s commercial value.
- The proposal drew public pushback from some club leaders over the leak and agenda-setting, and AFA officials said they will study the file but will not change the already fixed 2027 format.
- River also secured a short-term scheduling concession from the AFA to postpone its Fecha 11 match on Oct. 7 because multiple players were called to national teams, and any structural reforms would be considered for implementation from 2028 onward.
