Overview
- The multi-car accident happened on Saturday at the Shanghai International Circuit when Neil Verhagen’s BMW made contact with David Chen’s Ferrari, sending cars into the Turn 14 runoff and leaving Millroy’s AAI Ferrari engulfed in flames.
- Loek Hartog stopped his Porsche, obtained a fire extinguisher from a marshal, fought the blaze and pulled Millroy from the cockpit in about 49 seconds as shown on Hartog’s on-board footage.
- Millroy was taken to hospital with multiple fractures, a bruised lung and a memory gap around the crash and is scheduled for operations and a period of recovery.
- AAI Motorsport condemned the track response, criticised broadcast errors that understated the rescue, announced it will no longer race in China GT and said it may take further action.
- The China GT organising committee apologised, praised Hartog’s actions and said it will investigate shortcomings in marshal, firefighting and medical procedures with proposals to improve on-site emergency plans.
