Rise in Injuries and Crimes at German Football Matches

The latest report from the Central Office for Sports Deployments shows a significant increase in violence and crime during the 2023/2024 football season in Germany.

• The number of injuries at football events increased by 13.8% compared to the previous season, totaling 1,338 cases.
• Police officers and security personnel were among the most affected, with injuries to police rising by 39% and security staff injuries nearly doubling.
• The reported crimes around football matches rose by 12.2%, with 7,351 incidents recorded, including typical offenses like assault and vandalism.
• The use of pyrotechnics remains a significant issue, with thousands of related offenses recorded as both administrative violations and crimes.
• A substantial rise in stadium bans was noted, with nearly 600 nationwide bans in effect by August 2024, marking a 76% increase from the previous year.
