Riot Platforms Buys Rockdale Site, Lands 10-Year AMD AI Hosting Deal

The miner is redirecting power assets to hyperscale data centers by monetizing bitcoin for infrastructure.

Overview

  • Riot closed a $96 million fee-simple purchase of 200 acres at Rockdale, funded by selling about 1,080 bitcoin.
  • The Rockdale campus features a 700 MW grid interconnection, and Riot now controls roughly 1.7 GW of approved power across its Texas sites.
  • AMD leased an initial 25 MW of critical IT load under a 10-year agreement valued at $311 million, with phased delivery scheduled from January to May 2026.
  • The agreement includes three optional five-year extensions and expansion rights up to 200 MW, which could lift the total contract value to about $1 billion.
  • Riot estimates $89.8 million in retrofit capital for the initial build and forecasts roughly $25 million in annual net operating income, while shares rose around 7% to 13% following the news.
