Rio Unveils Pre-COP30 Climate Week Featuring Earthshot Prize and Global Mayors

Overview

• From November 1–7, Rio will host 53 climate-related events across the city, pairing public activations with policy forums in the run-up to COP30 in Belém.
• The Earthshot Prize makes its Latin America debut on November 5 at the Museu do Amanhã with about 1,600 guests expected, with Prince William and guests including Anitta, Shawn Mendes, Gilberto Gil and Luciano Huck.
• The Forum of Local Leaders runs November 3–5 at the MAM/Vivo Rio complex, organized by the COP30 presidency and Bloomberg Philanthropies, drawing 300+ city and regional leaders and daily audiences of 2,000–2,500.
• C40’s mayors summit marks the network’s 20th anniversary with hosts Sadiq Khan and Eduardo Paes and expected attendance from Anne Hidalgo, as sessions focus on financing, resilience and adaptation.
• City hall’s COR-Rio integrated plan deploys cameras, drones and targeted traffic controls, with restrictions around MAM (Nov 1–6) and Praça Mauá (Nov 4–5) and brief VLT station skips on Nov 5, and no heads of state are expected.
