Rio Releases Official 2026 Street Carnival Calendar With 462 Blocos and Ten Megablocos

The release provides a single authoritative map of dates, locations, crowd projections.

Overview

  • Riotur published the full street-carnival schedule for January 17 to February 22, and the listings are available on the Blocos do Rio 2026 app and official website.
  • The Circuito Preta Gil in Centro will host ten megablocos from January 24 to February 22 on Rua Primeiro de Março, featuring Bola Preta (Feb. 14, ~700,000), Fervo da Lud (Feb. 17, ~600,000), Bloco da Anitta (Feb. 21) and Monobloco (Feb. 22).
  • Beyond the megablocos, 61 large blocos with expected crowds of at least 10,000 are scheduled across multiple zones, including Zona Sul, Barra da Tijuca, Recreio and Ilha do Governador.
  • Cordão do Boitatá joins the megablocos for the first time as it marks 30 years, returning to Rua Primeiro de Março with an acoustic cortejo and recognized status as Rio’s intangible cultural heritage.
  • Belo Horizonte released its Pré-Carnaval program for January 31 to February 13 with 225 confirmed blocos, while attractions for the main carnival days in the city are still pending announcement.
