Rio Prosecutors Begin 3D Autopsies, Flag Atypical Wounds in Police Mega-Operation That Killed 121

Overview

• MP-RJ says it is building high-fidelity 3D models of the 121 bodies from the Oct. 28 Alemão and Penha operation to underpin individualized autopsy reports.
• An eight-member team independently oversaw necropsies at IMLAP, capturing 334 body scans now housed on Evidence.com.
• Examiners flagged two atypical cases showing signs of close-range gunfire, with one also presenting decapitation by a cutting or blunt-cutting instrument.
• Prosecutors recorded that most victims had multiple projectile wounds to the torso, abdomen and back consistent with armed confrontation.
• The materials and a recommended review of officers’ body-camera footage and confrontation scenes will be sent to Justice Alexandre de Moraes for STF scrutiny.
