Rio Inspectors Shut Three Botafogo Venues Over Pest and Hygiene Violations

The city says the businesses can reopen only after structural and sanitary fixes.

Overview

  • A coordinated Friday evening operation by Seop and IVISA-Rio inspected bars and restaurants on Voluntários da Pátria and Nelson Mandela in Botafogo.
  • Epifania Japa e Bar, Boteco Bom de Copo, and Rosa de Ouro Restaurante, Bar e Pizzaria were interdicted after inspectors found cockroaches and rodent feces in kitchens and storage areas.
  • Teams inspected 11 establishments, issued 10 fines of about R$4,000 each, and destroyed roughly 430 kg of food deemed unfit for consumption.
  • Inspectors also checked sidewalk use rules that require licensed venues to keep a 1.5 meter pedestrian corridor and maintain the public-area use fee in good standing, with authorizations subject to revocation.
  • City officials report 276 fines in the past 50 days and say periodic enforcement will continue with support from the Municipal Guard and the Subsecretariat of Operations.
