Rio Details Citywide New Year’s Plan With 13 Free Stages And Expanded Copacabana Fireworks

Overview

• Copacabana’s main broadcast stage will feature Gilberto Gil with Ney Matogrosso, Belo with Alcione, João Gomes with Iza after midnight, a set by Alok, and a samba finale by Beija-Flor.
• The fireworks show is slated to run 12 minutes from 19 barges along the Copacabana shoreline, described by organizers as the largest mounted in the city.
• Organizers say a 1,200-drone light display is planned over the beachfront, a total the event’s creative director claims would set a Latin American record.
• Thirteen official stages will host free concerts across the city, including three in Copacabana and additional sites in Flamengo, Leme, Madureira, Penha, Ilha do Governador, Paquetá and other neighborhoods.
• MetrôRio will operate with a R$15 round-trip ‘passaporte’ on Dec. 31, requiring timed outbound entry and the special wristband for returns until 5 a.m., with other payment methods temporarily disabled during the operation.
