Rio de Janeiro Enacts Law Setting Rules for Condominium Deliveries

• Mayor Eduardo Paes sanctioned Lei 9.226 and published it on Jan. 7, putting into effect rules for deliveries by app workers, companies and autonomous couriers to residential and commercial buildings.
• For small items such as meals or groceries, customers must collect orders at the entrance or at a meeting point designated by condominium management.
• Medium and large items, including appliances and furniture, may be delivered to the unit door in line with building security procedures and permitted hours.
• Elderly residents and people with disabilities or reduced mobility can receive delivery to their units at no extra cost, and refusals in these cases may lead to temporary suspension on apps.
• Delivery platforms, websites and carriers must disclose the rules at purchase and acceptance, and condominiums must inform residents of the legal requirements.
