Overview
- The metro runs 19:00–05:00 with a R$15 Réveillon pass bought online, which uses a QR code tied to a chosen outbound slot at 19h, 20h, 21h, 22h or 23h, and regular cards are suspended from 19:00 until 07:00 on January 1.
- Return boarding between 00:00 and 05:00 requires the wristband issued when the QR code is validated; those who did not arrive by metro can collect a wristband on Dec 31 from 14:00–22:00 at Siqueira Campos, Cantagalo, General Osório, Jardim Oceânico or Maracanã.
- After midnight, boarding is permitted only at Cardeal Arcoverde, Siqueira Campos, Cantagalo, General Osório and Jardim Oceânico, with all other stations operating for disembarkation only.
- Private traffic in Copacabana restricts from 19:00 and fully closes at 21:00, bus embarkation inside the neighborhood ends at 21:00, and all departures concentrate at Terminal Enseada de Botafogo operating roughly 21:00–05:00.
- Security features 16–17 screening points with metal detectors and facial‑recognition cameras linked to the CICC, about 3,500 military police and 300 monitored vehicles, bans on glass, sharp objects and private fireworks, plus a program of 70 attractions, a 1,200‑drone show and a 12‑minute fireworks display for a crowd the city expects to top 2.5 million in Copacabana.
