Ring Links With Flock to Let Police Request Doorbell Video Through Neighbors

Police using Flock software can now ask Ring owners for specific incident footage through Neighbors with voluntary, anonymous responses.

Overview

  • The integration allows agencies on FlockOS or Flock Nova to post Community Requests to nearby Ring users, with rollout described as imminent.
  • Requests must specify the incident’s location and timeframe and include a unique investigation code before being shown to relevant users.
  • Any video a user chooses to share is routed into Flock’s platform with a CJIS-style audit trail that Flock says preserves chain of custody.
  • Privacy advocates flagged expanded surveillance risks after Sen. Ron Wyden alleged federal access to Flock data, while Flock says it has no current DHS contracts and limits the feature to local investigations.
  • The move follows Ring’s recent Axon partnership and comes after Ring ended its Request for Assistance tool in 2024, with Flock planning to enable the new feature for law enforcement customers at no charge.
